Since 2002, the US CDC has also recommended alcohol-based products for hand disinfection: isopropanol, ethanol, n-propanol, or a combination of two. The antimicrobial activity of these alcohols is attributed to their ability to denature proteins. The best antimicrobial efficacy can be achieved with ethanol (60 to 85%) and isopropanol (60 to 80%), but higher concentrations are less effective because proteins are not so easily denatured in the absence of water.
In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, a number of countries have allowed the temporary use of unapproved disinfectants, which has not only provided new opportunities for their suppliers, but also posed new challenges in the form of the need for reliable production control.
Because it is necessary to ensure fluency and disrupt as few processes as possible during production, it is suitable to take advantage of the properties of molecular spectroscopy: the speed of measurement and the need for no or minimal sample treatment. When using the ATRtechnique, all you have to do is apply a small amount of sample to the crystal and you will get an easily interpretable spectrum in a few seconds.
Intelligent software
The trouble-free operation of FT-IR spectrometers is ensured by the OMNIC control program. In the case of the Nicolet Summit device, it is the OMNIC Paradigm, in which it is possible to easily create workflows that will make your work even easier.
In addition, it is possible to develop customized calibration methods in the TQ Analyst program, so you will get not only the spectrum of the sample, but also the data on the concentrations of the monitored substances in a few moments.
